Jonas Stenstrom
Hey, I’m Jonas. For the last 15 years, I’ve been telling stories about the natural world through photography, video, presentations and in-classroom teaching. My passion for nature started at a young age and later led to a Masters degree in biology. I grew up in a family where outdoor activities was part of the daily routine, and I was fortunate to be able to travel to some amazing places already early in life, something that undoubtedly helped shape who I am and what I do today. I believe knowledge is the key to protection and conservation, and the best way to learn is to see and experience things first hand. When it comes to nature it really isn’t enough to read about it in a book or see it on a screen. That’s for inspiration only. The life-changing moments happen when you let the comfort of the home go and step outside.
Guiding people on adventures in nature is one of the best things in the world. Being able to help open the door to a whole new world and to see things with new eyes is a huge honor to be part of.When I’m in the field with students I like them to come home a new understanding of how things are connected. That there is almost always more to see around you than you first thought. That almost everything we see has an interesting story to tell. And that little critters are not only really important for a natural system, they can also be incredibly interesting if you take the time to really check them out. And you will know what I mean after our first walk in the rainforest! Every time you out is going to be a little bit different. Things like time of the day, weather, and just luck in general all affect what you find. Go out a couple of hours later and things may be different. The cool thing about the rainforest is that there is so much life that could potentially be there that we really maximize our chances of seeing new things every time we go out.
If you join one of our trips my hopes are that you will come home with a bunch of amazing memories that you will remember for the rest of your life. And who knows, maybe even some life-changing experiences.
Hope to meet you in person soon – Jonas
